Start with a state electrician license, then complete EVITP certification ($395) or a manufacturer program (ChargePoint, Tesla, Enphase). EVCharger Academy prepares you for the exam and teaches the business side EVITP does not cover — bidding, permitting workflows, and utility rebates.
How do I become an EV charger installer without an electrician license?+
You cannot legally install permanent Level 2 or DC fast chargers without a licensed electrician performing the work. Options: apprentice under a Master Electrician (4-year path), or partner with a licensed electrician and run the business, sales, and permitting side.
How long does EV charger installer training take?+
Our self-paced course takes 6–12 hours to complete. EVITP certification adds 24 hours of online coursework plus a proctored exam. Together you can be certified and taking jobs in 30–60 days.
Do I need EVITP to install EV chargers?+
