EVITP vs Electrician License: What's the Difference?

An electrician license is a legal requirement to perform any electrical work. EVITP is an industry certification (~24 hours + exam) that layers on top and is required by many utility rebate programs. You need the license; EVITP is optional but strongly recommended.
The two get confused constantly because both use the word 'certification.' Only one is legally required — and it's not EVITP.
